Bahamas-Rum Cay
Official Openning Ceremony of Port Nelson Airport - Feb.
27th, 2004 |

Prime Minister of The Commonweath of the Bahamas
On Feb. 27th, 2004, The Rt. Hon. Prime Minister Perry Gladstone Christie was on
Rum Cay to officially open the new Port Nelson Airport. Also in attendance
was Rum Cay Member of Parliament Mr. Phillip Davis, Minister of Transportation
and Aviation, Ms. Glenys Hanna-Martin and many other high ranking Ministers.
The trememendous importance of this historic event cannot be overstated. This
new 5000' airstrip will dramatically improve the ease of traveling to Rum Cay
and will undoubtedly begin a new era of prosperity to the entire island.
During his speech, Rt. Hon. Prime Minister Christie stated on several occasions
his unwavering commitment to the development of Rum Cay. He strongly encouraged
the local residents to take charge of their futures by starting new businesses
so they can be major benefactors to the phenmenal growth that is about to occur
on Rum Cay. Rum Cay Member of Parliament Mr. Phillip Davis announced during his
speech that twice a week air service to Rum Cay would soon begin with a
well-known local air carrier.
Mr. John A. Demming, President of Rum Reef Club LTD., was formally introduced
to the Rt. Hon. Prime Minster Christie after the ceremony an can be prominently
seen with the Prime Minister in the Airport Official Opening Ceremony video

On September 12, 2003 Prime Minister Christie presented an ambitious
development plan for the Bahamas. Rum Cay has a particular focus which greatly
enhances the value of land on Rum Reef Club.
